RICARDO STEYER

SYDNEY BASED BRAZILIAN

GUITARIST & singer

Brazilian 7-string guitarist, vocalist, and cultural ambassador of Choro, Samba, Bossa Nova & MPB (Música Popular Brasileira).

Born in Porto Alegre, I discovered music at an early age, first as a self-taught artist exploring diverse genres before establishing myself professionally in the early 2000s within Brazil's vibrant Rock and Pop-Rock scenes.

Since relocating to Sydney in 2012, my focus has shifted to celebrating my homeland's rich musical traditions abroad. From intimate solo performances to dynamic 9-piece ensembles, I've brought the infectious Brazilian Music to Australia's most prestigious stages, including opening for international artists on world tours at Sydney's Factory Theatre and the Concert Hall of The Concourse Chatswood, bridging cultures through performance and collaboration. Since 2014 I have also been a driving force in developing the Choro scene in Australia, collaborating with several groups and a number of artists across diverse formations.

Deepening my craft, I studied at the renowned Brazilian School of Choro Raphael Rabello and immersed myself in the art of the 7-string guitar under the mentorship of virtuoso Fernando César 7 cordas (brother of Hamilton de Holanda). Since 2015, this instrument has been the heartbeat of my music, allowing me to blend tradition with innovation.

Beyond the stage, I'm passionate about mentoring the next generation of musicians - sharing hard-won insights from my 20+ year journey across genres to help artists develop their technical mastery, creative voice, and professional artistry.

Explore my projects – each one a living celebration of Brazil's musical soul.

CHORO ENSEMBLE

Ricardo Steyer Choro Ensemble is a dynamic group dedicated to the vibrant and intricate Choro music, from traditional to contemporary styles. Led by Ricardo Steyer, a renowned 7-string guitarist, the ensemble is a collaboration of some of Sydney’s finest and most experienced musicians, featuring instruments such as mandolin, flute, sax, clarinet and pandeiro. Together, they bring the rich heritage and lively spirit of the first authentic Brazilian genre to life.

The ensemble performs regularly at a variety of events, including private functions and corporate gatherings, offering a unique and engaging musical experience. They also host rodas de choro, the traditional jam-like gigs that celebrate the communal and improvisational nature of Choro music.

Throughout the year, Ricardo Steyer Choro Ensemble can be found performing at numerous events, sharing the beauty and history of Choro with audiences across Sydney.

STEYER BROTHERs

Brazilian guitar

My brother and I have been playing music together for more than 20 years and our latest adventure is a journey to our roots: exploring the Brazilian Guitar repertoire and the works of Dilermando Reis, João Pernambuco, Turibio Santos, Baden Powell, Yamandu Costa, Toquinho, etc.

The Brazilian Guitar has a lot to offer and plays a pivotal role in the culture of our country, so for us it is a real pleasure to step into our homeland's musical heritage and share it across Australia.

Parallel to that we have also developed a classy instrumental Bossa Nova & Jazz standards repertoire that is a great addition to casual and formal gatherings.

Available for corporate & private events.

BELIZA

9-piece Brazilian MPB powerhouse blending funky rock energy with samba soul.

Since 2020, Beliza has been electrifying Sydney's music scene, packing venues like Lazybones and Camelot Lounge with the explosive fusion of Brazilian classics and contemporary fire. We honor the legendary works of Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, João Bosco, Djavan, and other greats through our 9-piece ensemble - featuring world-class musicianship, irresistible grooves, and the dynamic vocal interplay between myself and my brother Roberto.

More than concerts, our shows transform into cultural celebrations where the line between stage and crowd dissolves. The ensemble creates a strong synergy that pulls the audience into the performance - you don't just hear Brazilian music at its finest, you become part of it.

Our versatility shines through in every setting — from the high energy of a 9-piece show to the nuanced interplay of a quartet, we tailor the experience to the space and crowd.

Available for corporate & private events.

MUSIC CLASSES

My purpose as music tutor is to explore the creativity within the student, to develop personal confidence and the set of skills necessary to master a musical instrument, and to engage the studies with excitement, fun and an achievement plan. Each student gets a tailored program based on their experience and goals, going through exercising, general understanding of theory & how to apply that into practice and development of repertoire.

If you would like to learn or develop your musical skills with an instrument, explore music theory, harmony, or even get started in your musical journey, please send a message in the Contact form below. All ages & levels are welcome.
