The Ricardo Steyer Choro Ensemble is a dynamic group dedicated to the vibrant and intricate Choro music, from traditional to contemporary styles.
Choro, the first authentically Brazilian genre, emerged in the late 19th century as a captivating fusion of African rhythms and European classical music. Known for its lively and cheerful energy, intricate improvisation, and distinctive Brazilian instrumentation, Choro is a celebration of cultural harmony and musical virtuosity.
Led by Ricardo Steyer, an acclaimed 7-string guitarist, the ensemble brings together some of Sydney’s finest and most experienced musicians. Featuring instruments like the mandolin, flute, saxophone, clarinet, and pandeiro, the group masterfully captures the rich heritage and infectious spirit of this beloved Brazilian genre. Together, they invite audiences to experience the joy and sophistication of Choro, transporting listeners to the heart of Brazil’s musical soul.
